We at dental story use the latest dental equipment like Rotary Endodontics and Apex ZX Locator depending on the patients’ condition. Depending upon case, our Endodontist shall explain the Root Canal procedure before proceeding with the treatment. He may also perform a Single Sitting Root Canal treatment which is both cost effective and painless. The entire procedure may last from 35-40 minutes. Post treatment, our Endodontist shall communicate you the aftercare instructions and requirement for further sittings, if any.
What is RCT?Root canal treatment is required when the pulp (in the tooth) which constitutes nerves and blood vessels becomes infected or damaged. During root canal therapy, the infected or damaged pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned, filled, and sealed. The common causes that affect the pulp are a deep cavity, cracked tooth, multiple dental treatments to the tooth or trauma to it. The term “root canal” comes from cleaning of the canals within the tooth’s root.
- Severe toothache pain on chewing or on application of pressure
- Prolonged sensitivity (pain) to cold or hot temperatures (after the cold or heat has been removed)
- Discoloration (darkening) of tooth
- Swelling and tenderness of nearby gums
- Persistent or recurring pimples on the gums
- Sometimes, there may not be no symptoms.
There is consensus among majority of dentists that keeping natural tooth is preferable to removing it and getting it replaced with a bridge or implant. Root canals are a method to preserve a tooth by removing the damaged pulp rather than opting for a costly and irreversible extraction that can cause much more stress to the body. In fact, with proper care, a tooth with RCT can last a lifetime.
- X-ray: Dentist shall first take X-rays or examine existing X-rays to show the location of damaged tooth.
- Anesthesia: Administration of local anesthesia to the affected tooth.
- Access hole: an opening is made to remove the diseased tooth pulp.
- Filling: the roots are filled with gutta-percha (rubber like material) material and sealed off with cement.
